You've found a piece of turquoise that speaks to you. The blue is deep. The matrix is real. You want to wear it every day.
But a quiet question lingers: Is it safe?
The short answer is yes—real turquoise is absolutely safe to wear. But there's more to the story. Not everything sold as turquoise is real. And not every bracelet is made with the same care.
Here's what you need to know to wear your turquoise with complete peace of mind.
1. Real Turquoise Is a Natural Mineral
Genuine turquoise is a mineral formed over millions of years—copper, aluminum, phosphorus, and water, compressed deep in the earth. It's inert. It doesn't react with your skin. It doesn't leach anything into your body.
Think of it this way: turquoise has been worn against the skin for over five thousand years. From ancient Egyptian queens to Himalayan nomads to modern jewelry lovers—no one has ever reported harm from wearing real turquoise.
It's a stone. A piece of the earth. The earth doesn't hurt us.
2. What You Actually Need to Watch Out For
The risks don't come from the turquoise itself. They come from two other sources: fake stones and cheap findings.
Fake Stones
Imitation turquoise is often made from howlite or magnesite—white stones dyed blue. The dyes used can be chemical-based and may irritate sensitive skin, especially when worn for long hours or in warm weather.
If your turquoise bracelet turns your wrist blue or green, it's not turquoise. It's dye. Take it off.
Cheap Metal Findings
The metal parts of a bracelet—spacers, clasps, hooks—are often where skin reactions begin. Cheap alloys may contain nickel or lead. Nickel is one of the most common causes of contact dermatitis. The European Union restricts nickel release from jewelry to no more than 0.5 µg/cm²/week. Not every seller follows that standard.
At OresGreen, every metal finding we use is nickel-free and lead-free. We test. We verify. Because stillness should never come with a side of irritation.
3. What About Treated Turquoise?
Some turquoise is stabilized—treated with a clear resin to strengthen softer stones. This is common and widely accepted in the industry.
Stabilized turquoise is still real turquoise. It's still safe to wear. The treatment simply makes the stone durable enough to be used in jewelry that lasts.
What we don't use is dyed or reconstituted turquoise. No fake blue. No pressed powder. Only stones that came out of the earth looking the way they look on your wrist.
4. Our Commitment at OresGreen
Every bracelet we make is built on three safety promises:
• Natural turquoise only. No dyes. No imitation stones. We know which mine every stone came from.
• Nickel-free and lead-free findings. Every spacer, clasp, and hook is tested and verified.
• Transparent information. If you ever have a question about what's in your bracelet, ask us. We'll tell you.
We believe what you wear against your skin should be as honest as the stillness it brings.
5. Simple Tips for Safe Daily Wear
Even with real turquoise and safe metals, a few habits will keep your bracelet in perfect shape and your skin comfortable:
• Remove before swimming or showering. Water and chemicals can dull the stone's surface over time.
• Avoid perfume and lotion on the wrist. Apply them first, let them dry, then put on your bracelet.
• Wipe gently after wear. A soft, dry cloth is all you need. No harsh cleaners.
• Store in a dry place. A jewelry pouch or box keeps dust and moisture away.
These small acts of care aren't just maintenance. They're part of the ritual—the quiet moment of taking something off, putting it away, putting it back on.
